-Wood-

Constructed from prime grade 25mm solid american Black Walnut faces sanded to a smooth fine finish with lightly eased edges. professionally jointed from solid Walnut with a Scandinavian prime pine core giving high strength and stability and allowing the mantel to be an ideal lighter weight. I also choose to make the pine core as it is a very sustainable timber. all my timbers are sourced from reputable FSC approved mills.

Semi-matt (like eggshell) white painted top with a very hardwearing clear top coat for scratch and stain resistance, the top and bottom surface rolls over the front edge just slightly enhancing the two tone colours. the exposed walnut front adds texture and unique colouring, which is finished in a clear Osmo wax oil.
Finished to a very high standard. all items are made by myself from start to finish.

The support bars supplied are suitable for solid walls. note that if you have a hollow plasterboard wall then get in touch as I have options for all wall types .Simple & detailed fitting instructions are provided in the box.

-Placement (heat shielded)-

Recommended distances from heat source to a heat shielded mantel to allow for adequate air flow and adhere to current UK building regs. 30cm from inset/cassette stoves, but may be reduced to 25cm if appliance manufacture guidance allows.

or

1.5x the diameter of a wood burner flue. For example, a 4-inch flue would require a distance of 15cm or a 5-inch would require 19cm, etc. The flue is considered a heat source (unless insulated), so the mantel should be placed at a distance, diagonally or vertically measured from the flue to the underside of the mantel shield. Current building regs stipulate that unshielded mantels require 45cm+ clearance or 3x the flue diameter, so our shielded versions allow around 50% reduction.

Note: the above is based on UK building regulation guidance and top brand stove manufactures recommendations. You should always refer to your specific appliance manufacturers' guidance for safe clearances to heat shield/deflector mantels.

-Placement (no heat shield)-

It is usually recommended that for a un shieled mantel a clearance of 60cm is allowed for from the heat source but you should always go by the appliance manufacturers guidance. this however is at your discretion and we cannot be liable for any heat damage to a unshielded mantel that is placed too close.
