Raw Mill Finish in a clear coat, showing the rustic scuffs colour variations mild surface rusting (sealed) and other raw steel imperfections creating a unique industrial look.
Smooth surface finished in a hard wearing heat resistant semi satin coating. water, stain and scuff resistant.

-Material-
Constructed from dense black steel, extremely durable, and exceptionally stable. Designed for outstanding heat resilience, every component is A1 fire-rated and fully non-combustible.
 
-Heat retention/ TV deflection-
The steel shelf also acts as a great heat deflector if you’re looking to place a TV above your fireplace.
For effective heat protection, I recommend having a minimum 50mm overhang beyond the front of the TV. This means the TV should protrude no more than approximately 80mm from the wall.
I also recommend having around 50mm of overhang at each side of the TV, meaning the shelf should ideally be at least 100mm wider than the TV.
Please note that, as this is a metal shelf, the steel can absorb and conduct some heat from the fire source. For this reason, I recommend not placing electronic items, freestanding candles, or other highly heat-sensitive items directly on the shelf.
We cannot be held responsible for damage to electronic items where insufficient clearances have been allowed. As with any TV installed above a fire, the TV will naturally become warm, and it is the customer’s responsibility to ensure that the TV is positioned at a safe distance and within the manufacturer’s recommended temperature limits where applicable.

-Placement & Clearance-
For safe installation, we recommend positioning your non-combustible mantel shelf at least 15 cm away from the heat source. This minimum clearance allows for adequate airflow and heat dispersion, helping maintain safe operating temperatures around your wood burner, log burner, inset stove, or open fireplace.
Because my mantel shelves are made from a non-combustible steel, they are highly resistant to heat and will remain stable even when installed closer to the heat source than traditional timber mantel beams.
Under UK Building Regulations – Approved Document J (Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage Systems), combustible materials such as timber mantel beams must usually be installed at significantly greater distances from a stove or fireplace opening. Non-combustible materials, however, are not subject to the same clearance restrictions, which makes them an ideal choice for fireplace mantel shelves above wood burners and stoves where space may be limited.
Even when using A1 non-combustible materials, we still recommend allowing a minimum 15 cm clearance to promote airflow and prevent excessive heat build-up. Always follow your stove manufacturer’s installation guidance and consult a qualified installer or building professional where required.
This makes my fireproof mantel beam shelves a practical and safe solution for installation above log burners, inset stoves, open fires, and kitchen chimney hoods, combining modern fireplace safety with durable, heat-resistant design.
